Understanding the WordPress Feedback Feature

With each blog install, I always connect it to Jetpack, a plugin with the strength of a thousand. Jetpack comes with different functionality components that meets the needs of most bloggers, including the contact form.

A contact form allows your readers to get in touch with you without you giving away your personal email address. People tend to fill out contact forms quicker than sending an email, which makes it easier on your reader.  There are different types of contact forms, but we are going to focus on the Jetpack Contact Form with the Feedback feature in your Dashboard.

What is Feedback?

Each time someone submits a message through your contact form(s), it will also appear in Feedback in your dashboard. You should also receive an email from the form. Depending on your email settings, you might not. So it’s important that you check your Feedback tab.

Creating the Form

Once you activate CONTACT FORM under your JETPACK SETTINGS, you can then press the “Add Contact Form” button located on any page or post. A pop-up will appear where you can customize what your form will include and say.

When you customize the contact form, you can add dropdown and checkboxes. You can also change the email address that will receive the responses as well as set the subject line.

You can only have one contact form per page/post.

Remember Forms Are Not Secure

Forms should collect for general information.ou should not request login information or credit card detail. Any form that transmits the information by email is not secure.

Managing Form Results

You will receive an email notification for each contact form response. It will be listed under FEEDBACK, and often you will see a red dot notifying you of the inquiries.

If you see the red dot, you should automatically check it. You could potentially miss out on inquiries that did not also go through email. If Akismet is activated on your blog, it will also check for spam.

Contact Form Alternatives

  • Contact Form 7: I love this free plugin; it lets you have the ultimate control to integrate contact form features into your blog design, especially integrate the functionality with your design. You can also setup auto-responders easily with this plugin.
  • Ninja Forms is another option, similar to Contact Form 7. The advantage of Ninja Forms is there are other integrations available.
  • Gravity Forms is a popular option for a lot of people. Personally, I don’t like drag-drop functionality, so I try to avoid it. It also costs $39 to use. If forms are an integral part of your business, then I would check this out. Otherwise, Ninja Forms or Contact Form 7 should meet your need.
